Hiiiii, Inkwellers!
It’s HOT in Hollywood. It’s going to be a cruel rest of summer.
Speaking of Cruel Summer, my sister and I are going to the Taylor Swift concert next week. I’m. SO. Excited. I’m not a diehard Swiftie (have you SEEN the TikToks?), but I do love me some of Taylor’s hits.
But I’m sure you’re curious: what in the world does TSwift have to do with Inkwell?
Easy. Maybe more than anyone in the biz, Taylor KNOWS her audience. She is an expert on her millions of Swifties.
A brilliant marketer, Taylor Swift has mastered the art of connecting with her fans. With each era, her music and persona have shifted to resonate with her followers, making them feel seen and understood.
It's no wonder her tour is on track to be the highest grossing tour… ever.
Of. All. Time! $$$$
A reminder for copywriters: knowing your audience intimately is one of the things that will set you apart from average copywriters.
It’s the key to crafting compelling copy that leaves a lasting impact. So, let's learn from the best and infuse our writing with the same magic that Taylor does for her Swifties.
Cold Pitching: What to say when reaching out to ask for work.
Alright, so you’re ready to get your first gig. You’ve learned the basics of copywriting, have 1-2 samples to showcase, and are ready to find a client.
Congrats! 🎉🎉
Now, it’s time to send out cold pitches.
Cold Pitching, Simplified — What Is It?
Cold pitching is the practice of sending out targeted emails to strangers in order to get in touch with them and explain why you are a useful solution for their needs
You're introducing yourself, displaying your skills, and offering value.
All this is done without any previous interaction – hence, it's 'cold'.
Sound intimidating? It doesn't have to be!
Pre-pitch Essentials
Before you flex your pitching muscles, you need to have:
1-2 pieces of your original copy to demonstrate your experience.
(PS: Need help with this? No worries. That's where Inkwell comes in.)
Once you're armed with samples, let's pitch!
Here are some beginner-friendly templates to help you navigate.
Note: Edit these and add YOUR voice, but try and keep them short!
